Prescription eye drops like Restasis, Xiidra, and Cequa are used to help reduce inflammation and help boost tear production. While these drops can be very helpful in the management of dry eye disease, they can take one to three months to start to see results. Side effects like stinging upon installation may occur.

A short-term course of topical corticosteroids (Lotemax or Eyesuvis) may also be used as initial therapy or to treat dry eye flare-ups.
